Roberto De Zerbi finally has his benchmark match at Tottenham. Traveling to Stamford Bridge this Saturday, Spurs struck a major blow by winning against Chelsea (0-2), after a particularly successful performance. After a very complicated start to the season, marked by disappointing results and growing pressure around its coach, the London club showed a much more attractive face. Dominant in the game, the visitors notably finished the match with 70% possession, their highest total in the Premier League since April 2025. Long held back by a lack of efficiency, they finally found the fault at the end of the match thanks to an error by goalkeeper Mike Penders, before Mathys Tel came to seal this precious success. A victory all the more symbolic as it puts an end to a long period of drought on the Blues’ pitch, where Tottenham had not won in the league since April 2018.

Beyond the three points, this success could mark a real turning point for De Zerbi’s men. Spurs not only ended a series of six consecutive defeats against their London rival in the Premier League, but they also kept their clean sheet at Stamford Bridge for the first time since December 1986. A strong signal for a team which was still finding its bearings since the start of the year. The collective mastery, the intensity displayed and the ability to remain solid despite Chelsea’s attempts to react have enough to restore confidence to a group lacking certainty. Obviously relieved after this performance, Roberto De Zerbi did not hide his enthusiasm at the final whistle. The Italian now sees further and displays great ambitions for the future, with the desire to restore Tottenham to a place worthy of its history, even if it means sending a strong message to the entire championship.

A very useful internship in Marbella

Relieved by this prestigious success, Roberto De Zerbi especially wanted to highlight the collective progress of his team. The Italian coach believes that Tottenham are turning a corner, both in the game and in the state of mind. “ It was a great moment for the supporters, the club and the players. They deserved this victory and had prepared very well. We are making a lot of progress in our mentality, as a group and in our relationships with the players. We are also making progress on the ground. Now we are a complete team. The players are playing better and we have improved our style of play. I have to believe in this group. I never lost confidence in my players. We must continue to work hard and improve. We have a lot of great players, and I believe we can accomplish something important if we continue on this path. The atmosphere in the locker room is perhaps more important than tactics “, declared the Italian coach at a press conference.

This transformation, however, is not limited to tactical adjustments. De Zerbi particularly insisted on the importance of the work carried out behind the scenes, with a week spent in Marbella to strengthen ties and restore trust. “ When we eat dinner together and spend time together in the locker room, I see a different group, different relationships and a different vibe among the players. The team showed great character today, but we have a lot of new players. Those who have stayed since last season and two or three seasons ago have suffered results, notably two 17th places. We are working to change the last page of the club’s history. We are fortunate to have many great people in the locker room and many great players. I believe that by working hard we can achieve something important. The week in Marbella, face-to-face exchanges, opening up and removing the mask, were important for morale and faith », concluded the former OM coach. Tottenham may have finally found the trigger. It now remains to confirm this rebirth over time.
