Barça are masters in the art of surprising. After separating to everyone’s surprise from Ronald Araujo, for whom an agreement had been reached with Liverpool even before the mere stage of interest was revealed in the press, the Catalan club would now be on the verge of recruiting a goalkeeper well known to European football: a certain Dominik Livakovic.
According to the Croatian media IndexHRrelayed by the Catalan newspaper Sportthe 31-year-old goalkeeper is very close to joining Barcelona from Fenerbahçe. The two clubs have even already reached an agreement for a direct transfer estimated at around 3 million euros, plus bonuses. The plan would be to complete the signing of the Croatian goalkeeper immediately, but to loan him for a season to Dinamo Zagreb.
He would arrive as Joan Garcia’s understudy, now or in a year
Ederson’s understudy at Fenerbahçe, the one who amazed everyone during the 2022 World Cup would therefore theoretically replace Wojciech Szczęsny, who will retire in a year, at the end of his contract. Livakovic would therefore arrive as a replacement goalkeeper behind the untouchable Joan Garcia, while Marc-André ter Stegen, loaned this season to Ajax, will probably leave the club one year from the end of his contract.
For his part, Sport indicates that no final decision has been made for this season regarding Livakovic. He could be loaned to a club other than Zagreb, or even join the Barcelona squad provided that the salary cap allows Barça to register him. At the heart of this file? Andy Bara, representative of Livakovic and used to collaborating with FC Barcelona. Livakovic’s good World Cup with Croatia would also have reassured the Catalan leaders.
