Once again, OM finds itself in a situation that would almost make you smile.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was set to leave Olympique Marseille for Newcastle. At least that’s what some sources announced this Monday, notably Foot Mercato.

Except that Fabrizio Romano has just announced that this transaction is simply canceled. The 31-year-old midfielder reportedly refused to join the Magpies, even though they were willing to pay the amount requested by the Marseille club for his transfer. Compensation of fifteen million euros was mentioned.

A real snub for OM, which needs cash fairly quickly to strengthen its squad. While it has already been relieved of players like Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hamed Traoré, no reinforcements have been recorded for the moment.

OM, a transfer window that scares supporters

For the moment, the only paid movements recorded in the direction of arrivals concern the exercise of purchase options for players who were already present during the 2025-2026 financial year. Facundo Medina and Timothy Weah in this case.

OM supporters are very worried about this transfer window. Especially since the resumption of Ligue 1 is fast approaching. Bruno Genesio’s men will host Racing Club de Strasbourg on Friday, August 21, in the advanced match of the first day.
