Lucas Stassin in Ligue 1? Author of a great 2024-2025 season in the French elite with ASSE, the striker was unable to avoid the relegation of the Greens to Ligue 2. This descent could complicate his ambitions, in particular for selection for the 2026 World Cup. Playing in the second division is not ideal for the 20-year-old.
In a recent interview with RTBF, Stassin confirms that playing in Ligue 2 limits his chances. “I am happy for Romeo (Vermant), he deserves his selection. He plays in the Champions League, in the first division, and Rudi Garcia mentioned that in September. It relies enormously on the championship in which the player plays”explained the Belgian, while suggesting that he is still looking for a way out.
As for Saint-Étienne, coach Eirik Horneland is not against his player leaving. “If they (Stassin and Davitashvili) had to leave, we could deal with these departures. We have a lot of offensive options, it’s a very good thing for us”he declared at the beginning of November after the victory against Troyes.
The PFC returns to the charge
Last summer, Stassin tried everything to leave Saint-Étienne, clearly expressing his intentions to the Saint-Etienne leaders. Despite interest from Ligue 1 clubs like Lens, Paris FC and Rennes, ASSE refused to let him leave. But history could repeat itself.
Paris FC, which seeks to strengthen its attack, would have targeted Stassin again, as well as Patrick Zabi (Reims), reveals
Le10Sport. An emissary from the Parisian club was even present during Saint-Étienne’s victory against ESTAC (3-2) on the sidelines of the 14th day of Ligue 2. It remains to be seen at what price ASSE will part with its scorer. The Greens had strong demands during the last summer transfer window with a request of €40 million.
