This Wednesday, FIFA published a new update of its Power Ranking for the 2026 World Cup following the second day of the group stage. This ranking is based on statistical data evaluating the offensive, creative and defensive performances of players and goalkeepers, who played at least 20 minutes during the international tournament. Lionel Messi was the leader, but the 39-year-old Argentinian was overtaken despite his double against Austria (2-0). From now on, first place goes to the German, Deniz Undav, whose double against Ivory Coast allows him to obtain the best offensive rating (8.94).
He is ahead of Pulga (8.36) and Kylian Mbappé (8.08), double scorer against Iraq on Monday evening. In the creativity category, Frenchman Michael Olise takes first place thanks to his two assists against Iraq (8.14). He is ahead of the Paraguayan Julio Enciso (7.87) and the Moroccan Brahim Diaz (7.53). On the defensive side, the Canadian Derek Cornelius maintains his leading position with a score of 7.48, ahead of the Belgian Brandon Mechele (7.33) and the Cape Verdean Pico Lopes (7.16). As a reminder, this evaluation system was set up by Arsène Wenger.
