Ajax Amsterdam arrives in shape in Marseille: Tuesday evening, for its Champions League match against OM, the Dutch club has just won 2-1 in the league against the Breda, thanks to goals from Gloukh and Taylor. But the good news sportsman is tempered: Dutch supporters will not be able to follow their team on site.
A decree published this Saturday in the Official Journal prohibits any displacement of fans from Ajax to the Marseille city. The Minister of the Interior specifies that the prohibition applies “to any individual or collective displacement, by any means, of any person claiming the quality of supporting Ajax Amsterdam (…) between the French border points and the municipality of Marseille”.
This decision is explained by a history of overflows: “The trips of Ajax Amsterdam are very frequently sources of public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters”, underlines the decree. The rivalries between Marseille and Dutch supporters, already old, strengthen the risk.
A big passive
Already on September 12, the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône had taken measures to prohibit access to the public highway and at the Vélodrome stadium in Ajax fans. This new restriction therefore completes an already strict security system for a “high -risk” match.
The memory of the incidents of May 2022 is still lively: during OM-Feyenoord, violence had broken out in the city center and around the stadium, leaving traces in the memory of local authorities. Marseille is therefore preparing to experience a high -tension champions League match, but… without Dutch supporters.
