Jean Tigana is a legend of the Girondins de Bordeaux and the French team, but he also evolved at OM. As a reminder, the intractable defensive midfielder was one of the blues of Michel Platini double semi-finalists of the World Cup, in 1982 and 1986, and winner of Euro 1984 at the Parc des Princes. With the Aquitaine training, “Jeannot” was the star player for eight years, being crowned champion of France three times (1984, 1985, 1987) and by winning two French Cup (1986 and 1987).
It was as a hexagonal football cador that Tigana was attracted by Bernard Tapie to OM, while the native of Bamako (Mali) grew up in Marseille starting at ASPTT Marseille (his first pro club was SC Toulon). The midfielder was champion of France 1990 and 1991 by losing in the final of the European Cup of Champions Clubs in 1991 against the Red Star in Belgrade, on penalties (0-0, TAB: 5-3).
Since the epic led by the magnificent offensive trio Chris Waddle-Abedi Pelé-Jean-Pierre Papin, Tigana was OM's oldest player in the Champions League. This is no longer the case.
Aubameyang far ahead of Tigana
The European champion 84 began the two C1 semi-finals against the Spartak Moscow, in April 1991, for 3-1 victories in Luzhniki and 2-1 at the Vélodrome. He was associated with Laurent Fournier and Bruno Germain, but stayed on the bench during the final in Bari. Raymond Goethals has indeed trained a Germain-Fournier midfield and the last city was replaced by Philippe Vercruysse in the second period.
Jean Tigana was 35 years old and 305 days against Spartak, but it is now Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is the oldest player to evolve with Marseille Olympique in C1. The Gabonese international was aligned from the start against Real Madrid (2-1), Tuesday evening in Bernabéu, at 36 and 90 days. On the last day of the first phase of the LDC on January 28, Aubame will be 36 years old and almost eight months.
