The timing is rather ideal. On the eve of the reception of Rennes, where the Phocaeans will be able to celebrate their qualification for the next Champions League, the statue of Bernard Tapie was inaugurated in front of the Vélodrome stadium.
We see the emblematic president of Olympique de Marseille, carried in triumph by some of his players, lifting the cup with the big ears. A scene that immediately refers to May 26, 1993, the day OM offered French football its first C1 victory.
For Dominique Tapie, this statue is a success.
“It's very moving, it's a huge emotion, I'm so happy, so proud. He finally has this recognition which he deserved. I find it great with this esplanade in its name ”, said Bernard Tapie's widow, who died in 2021.
Pride for the Marseillais
Laurent Tapie also validates. “I find it very successful. I had seen photos but it is the first time that I have seen it in real life. I feel pride that people are there. I knew from the 1st day that we would get there ”said one of the sons of the “boss” at the microphone of BFMTV.
Several players in this epic were present this Friday evening on the vélodrome forecourt, including Eric Di Méco and Basile Boli.
“It was moving especially for Laurent who put his heart, it was perfect. The statue is there and so much the better for fans ”said the author of the winning goal against AC Milan (1-0).
