Frenkie de Jong is still far from being fixed on his future. One year before the end of his contract with FC Barcelona, the Dutch midfielder has so far campaigned on his positions, systematically refusing the extension offers submitted by the Catalan club since its lease extension in October 2020.
But, according to information from Mundo Deportivothe arrival of Hansi Flick on the Blaugranas bench changed the situation. Currently on a beautiful dynamic with Barça, the former Ajax Amsterdam player seems to be seduced by the sports project set up by the German coach. He is now open to the idea of extending his adventure in Catalonia beyond June 2026, the current deadline for his contract.
Barça readjusts its priorities
However, on the side of the leaders of the Cules, the extension of De Jong no longer appears as a priority. According to the Catalan media, the latter even decided to withdraw their last proposal and would not plan to relaunch the discussions immediately.
Negotiations could however resume at the end of the season, provided that the revival of the native of Arkel is confirmed. The main interested party had also confided to evolve at “80 % of its means” currently.
