Yesterday, all of Milan was in turmoil with the revelation to the general public of the project for the future San Siro. A new venue with just over 70,000 seats called Generali Stadium, the cost of which is estimated at 1.2 billion euros. On this occasion, all the Nerazzurri and Rossoneri leaders were out to discuss the future of the two enemy brothers of Italian football. On the AC Milan side, it was the club’s owner, the American Gerry Cardinale, who made the media tour. That’s good, the press had a lot of questions to ask him.

Last season, Milan experienced a huge disappointment by being ejected from the top 4 of Serie A at the very last moment. Result: no Champions League and therefore a big shortfall. Despite everything, the Rossoneri decided to go big during the last summer transfer window by spending €164 million to strengthen themselves, in particular, with three very expensive recruits: Spanish defender Mario Gila (€30 million), former Belgian left winger from Strasbourg Diego Moreira (€50 million) and Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos (€74 million). The former PSG striker even became the most expensive recruit in the club’s history.

An “aggressive” Milan in January

But for the moment, the team coached by Ruben Amorim is struggling to respond. Fifth last season, AC Milan are still in fifth place in the standings this year, seven points behind the domestic leader. Nothing to call into question the future of the Portuguese coach according to Gerry Cardinale. The latter even took advantage of this media tour to announce that Milan still planned to recruit. “We are in the process of rebuilding the team and, although I appreciate the new arrivals, the ones who stayed and the players I parted ways with, it will probably take two more transfer windows to finalize everything. We are only a quarter of the way there and the priority is to build a team capable of dealing with injuries”he told La Gazzetta dello Sportbefore announcing its intentions for the next winter transfer window.

“If you participate in the European Cups and you play Amorim Ball (sic), that is to say football at a very high pace, with rapid transitions, where everyone runs between 9 and 11 kilometers per match, you are obliged to rotate your squad. This is why, in January, in the transfer market, we will continue to be aggressive, opportunistic, and I will continue to strengthen our bench. My style is to act with determination and speed. For me, what matters is getting what we want from the Milan players. I won’t waste money, but when I set out to sign a player, I do everything I can to make it happen. » As a reminder, the Italian media recently announced the Rossoneri’s desire to repatriate right-back Zachary Athekame, on loan to OL. A rumor that was quickly nipped in the bud by the Gones.
