What seemed like just an agent rumor gained enormous weight in the space of a few hours. After trying to snatch Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli last summer, Paris Saint-Germain would have returned to the charge. The Georgian’s impactful winger profile is logically highly appreciated by the capital club which had targeted “Khvicha” as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappé. Rejected by the Partenopei, Paris is trying its luck again, eager to put a very serious competitor in the hands of a Bradley Barcola who has been less visible for several weeks. On paper, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a flashy reinforcement.
An accumulation of annoyances
Driving force behind Napoli’s Serie A coronation in 2023, the former Rubin Kazan resident is certainly less visible this season (5 goals, 3 assists in 19 matches), but he remains the star of Antonio’s team Tale. The club’s new coach, dear to president Aurelio De Laurentiis, had also vetoed the Georgian’s departure last summer. “The president promised me that they (Kvicha and defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo, editor’s note) would stay and that’s what they did. The credit goes to the club. These are two good elements. We will try to highlight the characteristics of our players, giving space to the quality of players like Kvara and Politano. His future depends on the president of Naples. If he wants to sell Kvara, he will leave. If he wants to offer a new contract, Kvara will extend it”he declared in July. How can we then find ourselves, six months later, talking about Kvaratskhelia leaving for PSG in the middle of the season? What is the point of Napoli letting go of one of its offensive stars when it is first in the Serie A standings?
Contacted by us, the independent journalist with knowledge of Napoli, Valentina Clemente, explains to us that it is an accumulation of events since the title season which led to this turnaround in the situation. “There are several factors to take into account. If De Laurentiis has to sell, he will never sell him to Italy, especially after everything that happened with Higuain (who was sold to Juventus, editor’s note). Second point, and this should not be neglected: for around ten years, Napoli and PSG have had very good relations in terms of the transfer window. This opening, which could go just as quickly with PSG, is linked to that. Finally, third point: we enter the economic aspect of Napoli. The post-Scudetto season was never resolved, in the sense that quite a few small stones remained at the bottom of the shoe. With Kvaratskhelia, perhaps the right exit route was not found. The extension file has been on the table for too long and it never happens. The situation is not calm, the player cannot express himself at his level. He is a player with enormous talent. All this accumulation of things and the money from PSG means that Kvaratskhelia can arrive at PSG soon. We must also not forget that there is the case of Osimhen (loaned to Galatasaray) of whom we do not know what he will give. So adding another problem, the Kvaratskhelia case, will not do the club any good. This could speed up the player’s exit. Afterwards, no one knows if this solution can be ideal for the player and Neapolitan supporters are divided. »
Lille, future collateral victim of Kvara’s arrival at PSG?
And Conte in all this? Why is the Neapolitan coach this time ready to let his player go? Quite simply because Kvaratskhelia’s status within the sky blue team has changed. “If things are going well for everyone, lately Kvara has understood that he is no longer untouchable. And as Napoli plays well even without Kvara, the player is no longer untransferable for the coach. Finally, the price risks falling a little more next summer because he will be two years from the end of his contract, so a sale this winter makes sense.tells us Vincenzo D’Angelo, follower of Napoli for the Gazzetta dello Sport. Finally, the extension issue is obviously mentioned among the main factors in this turnaround. An offer from Napoli (an annual salary of €5 million which could rise to €7 million over the years) has been mentioned, but the deal is slipping.
“There was this contact with PSG last season. In the end, Kvicha stayed, he was supposed to extend, but the agreement never happened. His agent had this very high offer from PSG in his hands. We are talking about two distant worlds. In addition, this season there have been some not very convincing performances. He’s an important player, but he’s not happy. All the chaos around Osimhen last season suggested that this kind of situation was going to happen. I don’t think an extension is possible. Plus, when they won the Scudetto, they offered Osimhen a new contract and not him, so that strained things too.”declared D’Angelo, before adding that LOSC could be impacted by this affair… “Today the irreplaceable player is David Neres. So Kvara is no longer untouchable. With €80m on the table, Napoli are selling it. He will buy a replacement this winter. Zhegrova is one of the players the club likes. » Lille has been warned…
