Last Saturday, Crystal Palace crossed swords with Newcastle for the 13th day of the Premier League. If the two teams parted in a 1-1 draw, Marc Guéhi stood out for an extra-sporting reason. Captain of the Eagles, the 24-year-old English defender wore a rainbow armband this weekend since it was the week dedicated to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in English football.

If Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy refused to wear it against Nottingham Forest (1-0 defeat), this was not the case for Marc Guéhi. The latter, who is a Christian, wrote the following words on the armband: “I love Jesus”. A message deemed political/religious and which puts him in an unfortunate position. Indeed, the regulations of the English Federation could sanction him for several matches depending on ESPN. This evening during Palace’s trip to Ipswich, Guehi did it again with the registration “Jesus loves you” sound on armband.
