Manchester United has had a problem at the number 9 position for several seasons. After having relied on Anthony Martial for a long time, the Mancunian club saw the Frenchman leave free this summer. To replace him, Erik ten Hag wanted to repatriate a veteran of the house.

According to The Athleticthe residents of Old Trafford considered recruiting Danny Welbeck. The current Brighton player was coming off a season with seven goals in 37 games played in all competitions. The 33-year-old England international was at the end of his contract with the Seagulls and Manchester United had considered making him an offer. Ultimately, Welbeck stayed at Brighton and extended until 2026.
