On Sunday, Senegal launched its preparations for the World Cup with a 3-2 defeat against the United States. A meeting during which Pape Thiaw carried out a large review of the squad and which allowed the coach of the Lions of Terranga to decide on the two players who had to leave the adventure before it even began.
On May 21, the former striker revealed a first list of 28 players. He therefore had to rule out two before Monday evening in order to stay on track with FIFA. It is now done and the two players sacrificed are Anderlecht midfielder Ilay Camara and Paris FC defender Moustapha Mbow.
Pape Thiaw therefore preferred the very young attacking midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, to his advantage against the United States and who will therefore be part of the adventure despite his 18 years and his four short matches played among professionals with Bayern Munich.
Bemba Dieng retained in the 26
He is the only one with Lorient striker Bemba Dieng to have been selected for the World Cup and not to have been part of the African Cup of Nations adventure in Morocco this winter. Conversely, Ousseynou Niang, Mamadou Lamine Camara, Boulaye Dia and Habib Diallo lost their place in the group.
The Senegalese attack looks great with obviously Sadio Mané but also Nicolas Jackson (Bayern Munich/Chelsea), Iliman Ndiaye (Everton), Ismaila Sarr (Crystal Palace), Assane Diao (Como) or Ibrahim Mbaye (PSG).
