What was the great fear of Marseille supporters is happening. A few days before the end of the transfer window, Paixao is closer to leaving than to staying a second season at OM. According to our information, the Brazilian has agreed on the terms of a contract with Sunderland. The 26-year-old winger has not yet left either because the two managements are still discussing the terms of a possible transfer.

For the moment, they are not yet on the same common ground but negotiations are continuing six days now before the transfer market closes. The Phocaeans still need to achieve some good sales between now and September 1 in order to be in the spotlight in the eyes of the DNCG and UEFA. They will also be able to start the second phase, that is to say recruitment since no new person has yet arrived.

Negotiations continue between OM and Sunderland

Sunderland greatly appreciates Paixao’s qualities but this is not the only file either. Discussions exist, for example, with Sporting CP for Mozambican winger Geny Catamo. The most expensive recruit in the history of OM (€30 million at Feyenoord last summer), the 26-year-old Brazilian had an encouraging first year with 12 goals scored and 7 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

He is particularly strong at the start of the season, between a very convincing preparation and a decisive first performance against Strasbourg last weekend. OM supporters, and management, willingly wanted to see elements like Kondogbia, Balerdi or Hojbjerg leave as a priority. The law of the market could well decide otherwise at a time when Greenwood, Aubameyang, Traoré, Medina, Rulli and Nadir have already left the ship.
