Atlético de Madrid have set their sights on Nicolas Jackson. With Alexander Sørloth currently injured and Julián Alvarez still wanting to leave, the Colchoneros have decided to strengthen their attack in these last days of the summer transfer window. And the Senegalese striker’s file is now very concrete since as reported by AS, Mateu Alemany, director of professional football at Atlético, went to London this Thursday with the objective of advancing, or even completing, the arrival of the Chelsea striker.
The timing is not trivial. Present on Wednesday evening at the Metropolitano to attend the match against Málaga, Alemany headed to London the next morning. Jackson has become one of the offensive priorities of Atlético, who particularly appreciate his experience in La Liga, where he revealed himself in the Villarreal jersey before joining Chelsea. He is considered the perfect profile to revive.
Towards a new loan
The main obstacle obviously remains financial. After having already invested €33 million + €7 million in bonus for Cristian Romero, Atlético has limited room for maneuver and is therefore seeking to negotiate an operation which will allow it to strengthen its attack without considerably increasing its accounts. The preferred idea is that of a loan, with the hope that Chelsea will agree to cover part of the Senegalese’s salary.
The fact remains that the Madrilenians have a weighty argument: the will of the player. After a season spent on loan at Bayern Munich, Jackson could be tempted by a return to Spain, a championship he already knows and in which he had started to make a name for himself with Villarreal. Atlético therefore hopes to take advantage of this desire to facilitate discussions with Chelsea and allow Alemany to quickly finalize this file. But on the club side, we are quite optimistic, especially since the Blues want to downsize their squad and especially in attack.
