Senegal coach Pape Thiaw temporarily replaced Yehvann Diouf, retained with Nice for the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 play-offs.

While Senegal is currently beginning its preparation for the 2026 World Cup with an internship at the Stade Abdoulaye Wade complex located in Diamniado, around thirty kilometers from downtown Dakar, many players are still missing.

This is particularly the case of Pathé Ciss (Rayo Vallecano), Ismaïla Sarr (Crystal Palace) and Ibrahim Mbaye (PSG), all three selected by their clubs due to the respective finals of the Conference League (this Wednesday, 9 p.m.) and the Champions League (Saturday, 6 p.m.).

This week, it’s Yehvann Diouf’s turn to be prevented from joining the Lions of Teranga. The goalkeeper is retained by OGC Nice due to the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 play-offs against AS Saint-Étienne, whose return match is scheduled for this Friday (8:45 p.m.).

The Senegalese coach Pape Thiaw then made the decision to temporarily replace him by calling the FC Metz goalkeeper Mamadou Sy. Antoine Mendy, Nice defender, is not replaced.

Senegal will play two friendly matches against – the United States (May 31), one of the three host countries, and Saudi Arabia (June 10) – before officially starting its World Cup on June 16 against France, then Norway (June 23) and Iraq (June 26) on behalf of Group I.
