The X account of the FC Barcelona women’s team deleted a publication after a controversy on social networks. The post entitled “Our colors” showed the Real Madrid player, Naomie Feller, in black and white facing a representation of Barça in color, which sparked numerous reactions and accusations of racist connotations since the French striker is black.
Faced with the scale of the controversy, the Catalan club quickly withdrew the publication in order to avoid any interpretation and to extinguish the controversy. The deletion of the message comes as tensions remain high in Spain after several recent episodes of racism and Islamophobia in Spanish stadiums.
