After the decision to declare Morocco winner of the CAN, Daniel Riolo believes that the fairest solution would be to replay the final.

It’s a real thunderbolt that shakes African football. Beaten in the final of the African Cup of Nations (CAF) on January 18 (1-0), Morocco was finally declared winner on the green carpet (3-0) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to the detriment of Senegal.

But the Lions of Teranga do not intend to stop there. In the wake of this shock decision, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced its intention to refer the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). A new twist is therefore more possible than ever.

A scenario that made Daniel Riolo react. For the consultant of RMCthe simplest solution would be to replay the final. “The regulations are clear, clear and clear. Wouldn’t the best solution be to replay this final? »he declared in theAfter Foot.

A late decision

But the timing is a problem. “The only problem is that the decision, which is only a matter of justice, comes so late. The regulation should have been implemented at the time. After this final, we said that we risked creating a precedent”he added.

Riolo insists on the time lag of this CAF decision. “It is impossible to say that the exit of the Senegalese did not disturb Morocco or the shooter. That today we come to apply a completely fair regulation because no one should do what Senegal did, it is logical. But the problem is doing it now”he concludes.
