The English Premier League will once again introduce match breaks during the month of Ramadan to allow Muslim players and officials to break their fast after sunset. This measure is part of a protocol already used for several seasons, with a stoppage of play in 2021 to allow Muslim players to break the fast, and it is seen as a way of accommodating the religious practice of footballers while maintaining the integrity of the competition.
During this period, matches scheduled in the evening (for example those starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday or 4:30 p.m. on Sunday) may see a short interruption at a natural moment in the game (such as a free kick, a throw-in or a goal kick) so that players can hydrate or eat just after the time when iftar is permitted. As a reminder, this type of break is not authorized by the LFP in France.
