AC Milan accelerated to complete the arrival of Niclas Füllkrug in order to quickly make him available to Massimiliano Allegri. With Santiago Giménez unavailable for two months and Rafael Leão recently affected by a muscle injury, the Lombard club wants to be able to call up the German striker from the first meetings in January. Initially, the target date was the match against Genoa on January 8, with January 2 marking both the match against Cagliari and the official opening of the transfer window, leaving little margin on the administrative level. A situation which was finally resolved thanks to a specific exemption granted by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), informs La Gazzetta dello Sport.

This request, made by the League, aimed to guarantee equal treatment between the clubs. In its press release, the governing body of Italian football considers that the proposal is “admissible, and in particular the reasons aimed at ensuring full and identical protection to all associations of the Serie A League”. It therefore authorizes, “only for the Cagliari-Milan match on January 2, 2026, the use of players whose registration entry into force date coincides with that of the match, provided that the electronic submission of registration requests is made before 4 p.m. on the day of the match”. All that now remains is to formalize Füllkrug’s transfer from West Ham, on a loan with an option to buy, before the German joins the Rossoneri to begin his work under Allegri.
