Freshly awarded the African Ballon d’Or, Achraf Hakimi continues his rehabilitation after his severe sprain of his left ankle against Bayern Munich. The Moroccan obviously aims to play the CAN in Morocco in front of his home crowd and hopes to be fit on the day of the first match against the Comoros, on December 21. In a report broadcast by Channel+, Moroccan coach Walid Regragui spoke about his captain’s injury and his feelings immediately afterwards.

“I see the ankle, for me at first it wasn’t serious. And I said to Rachid (editor’s note: Benmahmoud, the deputy): “What do you think?” Afterwards, when I saw him crying, I said to myself shit, he was never like that. There, that worried me. For him to cry, perhaps he must have felt. I said to myself: “There’s something there.” But what is the best of the best? It’s because he has an injury to come back right for the CAN. At least he’s not playing, he’s resting and especially in his head. And I know him: when he comes back, he’s going to be an animal. I even think we’re going to get confused when he comes back (laughs). »
