“It’s an absolute purge”: a former Blue destroys OM

Olympique de Marseille has experienced a downturn in recent weeks. Since their defeat against Sporting (1-2) on October 22 in the Champions League, the French vice-champions have struggled to regain their rhythm and consistency.

Over the last five meetings, Roberto De Zerbi’s gang has a mixed record of two defeats, a draw and two victories, the last of which against Brest (3-0) this Sunday. This dynamic contrasts with the start of the season for the Phocaeans, who, after a few hiccups, had a string of successes.

A tasteless victory

Obviously, this change in form raises some concerns among analysts. Former Marseille striker Christophe Dugarry, in particular, did not hide his disappointment at the Olympians’ decline. “I watch OM play, I’m bored, it’s deadly. That hasn’t been the case all season. Against Ajax, I found them great. Against Paris, maybe they don’t deserve to win, but I think they played an exceptional match. The match at Real, I liked less, but it wasn’t bad”he confided.

Even the big victory against Ty Zef did not convince the 1998 world champion. “There are a few matches where I enjoyed myself, but most of the time I’m bored. Facing Brest once again, it’s an absolute purge. It was ugly. You’re at home, Brest, they’re catastrophic, they’re absolutely worthless”added Dugarry.
