It had been in the air for several days already, and the sad draw recorded in numerical superiority in the Riviera derby against Nice last weekend only precipitated the reflection of the Monegasque leaders. Adi Hütter will no longer be the coach of AS Monaco when the championship resumes.

Arriving in the summer of 2023 on the Rock and under contract until June 2027, the Austrian strategist is paying for the chaotic start to the season for the Principality club, swept aside in particular by Bruges in the Champions League. This Thursday, the sidelining of the 55-year-old coach was confirmed by Agence France Presse. Negotiations are underway with his management regarding his severance pay.

Since the start of the international break, the ASM has multiplied avenues to find the person concerned a successor. From Edin Terzic to Sergio Conceiçao via Thiago Motta. It's ultimately a surprise that comes out of the hat, with the unanimous – but not yet official – appointment of Belgian coach Sébastien Pocognoli, 38 years old.

A Belgian sensation on the ASM bench

Stationed at Union Saint-Gilloise, which he led to the national title last season, the former Red Devil did not manage his team's friendly match today, replaced by his assistant Bart Meert. And for good reason. Here he is on his way to Monte-Carlo, with a nice promotion at stake, four years after the end of his career as a full-back.

With the Brussels club, Sébastien Pocognoli will have recorded 65 matches on the bench. For a record of 37 victories, 13 defeats and 15 draws. Adi Hütter, for his part, leaves Monaco with 90 matches under his belt. For 49 successes, 25 losses and 16 draws. Extended last January, he will have signed two podiums (one 2e place and a 3e) in 2024 and 2025.
