Racing Club de Lens has decided to part ways with Dino Toppmöller after just four Ligue 1 matches.

It was a little clap of thunder that shook the Lens skies this Tuesday. The Racing Club de Lens decided to show the door to its coach, Dino Toppmöller, just four days after the start of the French Ligue 1 championship. The German started with a victory before stringing together two defeats and a draw (2-2, against Le Mans).

The information was revealed by L’Équipe which confirmed that the technician would not be on the bench during the planned trip to Monaco on Friday evening, as part of the fifth round of the championship (8:45 p.m.). A surprising announcement given the stability observed in recent years on the northern bench, despite the budgetary constraints having impacted the club.

The exact causes and the content of the leaders’ thoughts to arrive at this decision have, however, not been clearly explained. In the standings, Lens is tenth in Ligue 1 with four points, three less than RC Strasbourg, sixth. There is therefore no danger in the house. Could a conflict of ideas on the group management method be a reason?

RC Lens opts for Yannick Cahuzac?

While waiting to learn more, and especially for this news to be made official, the sports media indicated that Yannick Cahuzac could benefit from this departure. Assistant to Dino Toppmöller since the start of the season, the former midfielder should be promoted to the number one position. The possibility has been rumored for a while in the northern corridors.

It remains to be seen whether it will remain in place in the long term or whether this change will only be temporary. In any case, it is he who should be in charge at the Stade Louis II.
