In April 2022 and after long negotiations, the twenty Ligue 1 clubs agreed on the distribution of the sums resulting from the agreement between the Professional Football League of Vincent Labrune and CVC Capital Partners. An agreement which provided for a financial windfall of 1.5 billion euros for tricolor football (Ligue 1 and Ligue 2) against 13.04% of its lifetime income in favor of the Luxembourg investment fund. More than three years later, some still have it across the throat.
The distribution was divided into three parts. Large winner, PSG received 200 million euros. In the second group, six clubs (OM, Rennes, Monaco, OL, Nice, Lille) each recovered between 80 and 90 million euros. The other clubs constituting the third group each obtained 33 million euros. Observer of French football, Stéphane Guy spoke of the subject when he analyzed the current economic situation of the various Ligue 1 clubs.
The journalist of the channel The team targeted OM management. “What has been improving me about the sequence that we have just experienced for three years is that a club like Marseille accepted what happened in the distribution of French football money is mind -blowing. That they have accepted that on the billion two loaned by CVC, the distribution is as unjust, it shows the state of speeding in which was French football in recent years. »»
Not just a negative for the future of L1 clubs?
With the end of partnership between Dazn and the LFP and the upcoming arrival of a 100% L1 channel created by the League, the former of Canal+ has oscillated between optimism and pessimism. “There may be two events: the level will necessarily deteriorate at first because the most 'bankable' players will leave. It may also be, hopefully, bring clubs to work better. »»
It will therefore be necessary to wait to see what will be the consequences, positive or negative, of this new evolution in the broadcast of the French first division championship.
