Spanish champion this season, FC Barcelona may not compete in the next Champions League campaign! This is indeed what the Catalan club risks for breaking the financial rules of UEFA, as reported The Times.
This is not the first time that Barça has been under the threat of UEFA. Last year, the Joan Laporta club had already been pinned by the European football body for falsifying its profits, which led the Blaugrana to be sanctioned by a fine of 500,000 euros.
As a dispute, FC Barcelona had decided to appeal to the Sports Arbitral Tribunal (TAS), but this call was refused last October, thus forcing the club to regularize the situation.
What are the sanctions incurred by FC Barcelona?
Since it is the second consecutive time that FC Barcelona breaks the financial rules of UEFA, the Catalan training could expect strong sanctions on the part of the European body. It could be obliged to reduce its number of players registered in the Champions League, see its number of points to be reduced or even worse being excluded from the competition.
Note that FC Barcelona is not the only club to be pinned this year by UEFA. Chelsea and Aston Villa are also in the viewfinder of the European football body, but should not be as heavily sanctioned as Barça.
