The evening could have been more beautiful in Saint-Etienne, Sunday evening. Winner of the 108th derby in the face of their eternal rival, Olympique Lyonnais (2-1), the Stéphanois club could not savor this victory with a taste of feat as it should be.
Tension was felt on the ground. After opening the ASSE score in the 19th minute, the scorer Lucas Stassin was the author of an ugly tackle on Corentin Tolisso. The latter pushed the Lyonnais to leave the lawn on a stretcher. As for the Belgian center-center, which had first received a red card, he escaped the worst after the referee of the meeting François Letexier returned to his decision by reviewing the images.
Just before half-time, and while AS Saint-Etienne led 1-0, a projectile jet from the stands hit the head of the assistant referee, Mehdi Rahmouni. This caused the match interrupted for almost 45 minutes. This incomprehensible and innacceptable gesture could now cost dearly to the Stéphanois club.
What does ASSE risk?
Although the meeting was able to resume and end, AS Saint-Etienne should still get any sanctions. RMC Sports reports that the club risks a total or partial camera of the Geoffroy Guichard stadium for the next championship matches.
A point withdrawal could also be imposed on AS Saint-Etienne which would represent a disaster for the Greens who are engaged in the fight for maintenance. However, RMC Sports indicates that it could be a removal of suspended points.
AS Saint-Etienne said it had identified the author of the projectile jet which was later placed in police custody. The club indicates that it will file a complaint this Tuesday and keeps the possibility of banning the individual arrested from the stadium.
