If we had been told, before the start of this 2024/2025 season, that Manchester City was going to spend the end of year holidays in seventh position in the ranking, we would surely have taken our interlocutor for a crazy person. And yet, the Skyblues are engulfed in an unprecedented sporting crisis since the arrival of Pep Guardiola. Only one victory in the last nine Premier League matches played, and a tactician who cannot find solutions…

While waiting for the Catalan tactician to manage to make the necessary tactical adjustments and for the out-of-form players to return to their current level, the solution could well come through the transfer window. For several weeks, the British media have been promising a fairly intense winter transfer window for the Cityzens, and information from the serious newspaper The Times confirm this trend.

Pretty names

The newspaper notably reveals five players who are highly appreciated by Pep Guardiola and who are seen as solutions – for January – to the crisis the team is going through. We find in particular Marc Guehi, central defender of Crystal Palace, as well as Bruno Guimaraes, the Brazilian midfielder of Newcastle. Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), who replaced Rodri at half-time in the final of the last Euro, is very popular with Guardiola to replace his compatriot in the midfield.

Then, Manchester City would also like to enlist stars. The names of Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) and Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) are thus mentioned. In the case of the first, it would be quite complex since he would be on the verge of returning to his club. As for the Bavarian, his contractual situation with a lease which expires in 2026 and negotiations which are not really progressing make it a slightly more credible option, but still expensive for a winter transfer window, especially since it would be quite surprising to see Bayern let go of such an important player during the season. Case(s) to be continued…
