The Nuno Mendes soap opera takes a new turn as the PSG left-back could refuse a contract extension to join Manchester United. Ruben Amorim, his former coach at Sporting Portugal, would be at the origin of this ambitious offensive by the Red Devils.
Manchester United put pressure on Mendes
Despite advanced discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and the 22-year-old for an extension until 2029, several British media, including CaughtOffsideclaim that Mendes is not ready to sign. Ruben Amorim, now at the head of Manchester United, would have contacted his former protégé to make him a recruitment priority, in the face of the disappointing performances of Luke Shaw. According to these reports, the player would be “seduced” by the idea of finding Amorim and playing in the Premier League, which complicates the negotiations underway in Paris.
A €70M transfer in the pipeline?
Under contract with PSG until 2026, Mendes could be sold as early as next summer if extension negotiations fail. PSG would have set the price of their player at 70 million euros. An amount that Manchester United would be ready to put on the table.
However, Nuno Mendes is an essential part of Luis Enrique’s system, which makes his departure difficult to envisage at this stage. PSG will therefore have to be convincing to secure the future of its left side, in the face of persistent interest from the Red Devils.
