Still regrets for OM

Reduced to ten before half-time, OM had to settle for a draw against Nice (2-2), Wednesday evening at the Vélodrome, during the 29th day of Ligue 1. A result which does not suit either side teams.

The matches follow one another and the crazy scenarios follow one another for OM. After overthrowing Benfica Lisbon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and snatching a point against Toulouse, on a scissor from Faris Moumbagna at the… 95e minute of play, Marseille once again experienced a completely crazy evening against Nice, Wednesday evening, as part of the 29e day of Ligue 1.

But, like three days earlier on the TFC pitch, it was a frustrating result that the Ciel et Blanc conceded at the Vélodrome (2-2). Four matches from the end of the championship, Jean-Louis Gasset’s players are eighth (41 points), five lengths from their next opponent, a team from sixth Lens. This meeting will be decisive in their race for Europe.

Clauss makes a comeback

Against the Aiglons, everything started badly for the Olympians, Terem Moffi opening the score in the first quarter of an hour (0-1, 13e). But on a magnificent strike from Jonathan Clauss, who was making his return to the competition after a month of absence, the smiles quickly returned (1-1, 31e). Many then thought that OM, having become dominant in the game, had entered this match.

But just before the break, Mr. Pignard considered it appropriate to give a second yellow card to Faris Moumbagna for a tackle that was certainly poorly controlled, but not particularly dangerous (45e+1). A harsh decision which did not discourage the Phocaeans. Returning from the locker room, with ten men, they took the advantage thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (1-1, 55e) on a penalty, also questionable.

Aubameyang finds the bar!

Involuntary compensation? Possible… But OM did not take advantage of it. A little tight on the physical level, after all the efforts made during the past week, the Marseillais lacked vigilance on a second ball at the entrance to the area, taken by Melvin Bard (2-2, 72e). A result “really annoying”says Jonathan Clauss, directly, at the microphone of Canal+.

The Marseille side and his partners may have had it all the more bad as they had two final chances to win, first by Iliman Nidaye, who presented himself alone in front of Marcin Bulka (80e), then by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who found the crossbar on a nice spiked ball after an incredible solo raid (90e+4). Spectacular but vain.
