Football continues to be hit by racist violence. In Spain this Saturday evening, the third division meeting between Rayo Majadahonda and Sestao River turned into drama after the Rayo players refused to end their match, after a clash between their Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Sarr and supporters opponents of Sestao, accused of having launched several racist insults at him. More surprisingly after that, the goalkeeper was sent off and this pushed his teammates to refuse to resume the match.

A scandal in Spanish D3

The referees then made the decision to end the match, while the Spanish third division club assured that it “will not resume the match after our player was the target of unacceptable racist insults”, on his social networks. However, the match referee confirmed his very violent insults in the minutes of the match. “In the 84th minute of the match and according to player no. 13 of the visiting team (Sarr), several supporters from the public (…), identified as fans of the home team because of their songs and their clothing, addressed him in the following terms: “You are a fucking monkey”, “fucking black shit”he explained.

Very violent words, which could not be heard by the referees, still according to the minutes. “The player violently grabbed one of the spectators present, having to be separated by his teammates and the spectators present. Once expelled, the player violently attacked me, with the clear intention of attacking., then added the referee to explain the expulsion of the Majadahonda goalkeeper. But this is not the only racist action of the evening, since Marcos Acuna, full-back of Sevilla FC, was also the victim of insults coming from the stands of the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez stadium in Getafe.

Vinicius Jr. reacted

“In football we demand respect. Let people not come here thinking that they can let loose and say stupid things. Acuna heard the insults and told the referee. We need to identify people and get rid of them.”, confirmed his partner Sergio Ramos, after the victory. But that's not all since the coach of Sevilla FC, Quique Sanches Flores, also declared that he had been the victim of xenophobic chants during the match against Getafe (1-0).

Events which forced Vinicius Jr, very committed to this cause and himself a victim of racism on several occasions, to react on X. “This weekend I didn't even play but we had three unbearable cases of racism in Spain, just this Saturday. All my support to Marcos Acuna and coach Quique Flores from Sevilla. In Sarr du Rayo Majadahonda, let your courage inspire others. Racists must be exposed and matches cannot continue with them in the stands.assured the Real Madrid winger.
