After Stade Rennais’ victory against Le Puy in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, Auvergne fans showed their anger towards the Breton club.
It was a beautiful Coupe de France evening, between an amateur club, which fought to the end in front of its supporters, and a professional club which held its place to reach the semi-finals. After the victory of Stade Rennais against Le Puy (1-3) at Geoffroy-Guichard, the financial director of the Auvergne club ranted against the Breton leaders.
“What a great evening of football in this legendary stadium, tarnished nonetheless by Rennes’ choice to take 55,000 euros from the share due to them from the ticketing revenue, railed Philippe Thiebault on his Facebook account. Proud of us and of all of you who encouraged us. So disappointed that the best club in Ligue 1 currently would stoop to this. For your information Mr. Pinault, your club has collected 370,000 euros in funding from the FFF since the start of the competition with this evening’s victory. Doing that to an amateur club that was not allowed to play at home, not very nice. I let social media do the rest. »
The recipe, a Coupe de France classic
The leader of Puy is therefore angry, and calls for vengeance against the billionaire owner of Stade Rennais. As a reminder, the subject of ticketing sometimes “livens” meetings between professional clubs and amateur clubs. In the Coupe de France, the two teams must theoretically share ticketing revenue, having therefore deducted its miscellaneous costs linked to the organization. By tradition, it is common for professional clubs to leave their share of the revenue to amateurs, for whom the sums in question weigh much more heavily on the budget.
As RMC recalls, Rennes had left part of its revenue in the previous round after its victory at Sochaux (1-6), retaining only the sum corresponding to its travel expenses. The Breton club visibly did the same on Thursday evening, to the great dismay of the Puy leaders.
