A first trophy of the season will be distributed this Monday in Italy, with the holding of the Super Cup final between Inter Milan and Naples.
After winning their respective semi-finals 3-0, Serie A champions Naples and Cup winners Inter Milan will face off on Monday evening for the Super Cup.
The two teams will meet at the Al-Awwal Stadium in Riyadh. Inter will try to win this trophy for the 3e times in a row and the 8e in all, while his rival of the day will be aiming for only his third consecration.
Naples, to save its season?
After changing formation from the Scudetto-winning 4-3-3 to Walter Mazzarri’s favored three-man defense, Napoli beat last season’s Coppa Italia runners-up Fiorentina.
The Partenopei are therefore 90 minutes away from lifting the trophy that they have not conquered for 10 years. A coronation would be all the more enjoyable as it will have been won against one of the best teams in the country. After a complicated start to the campaign, this would be enough to boost them for the second part of the season.
Obviously, Inter doesn’t hear it that way. After beating Naples 3-0 in the league less than two months ago, the Lombards will do everything to repeat this performance. Given the way they crushed Lazio last week, it’s obvious they have the ability.
Inter are favorites
Also runners-up in the 2022-23 Champions League, Inter have won the last two editions of the Supercoppa, beating AC Milan 3-0 last season, a year after beating their other great enemy, Juventus. They are therefore hoping for a three-way pass against another top Serie A player.
After winning the unofficial title of “Campioni d’Inverno” (winter champions) by leading at the halfway point, the Scudetto is Inter’s main goal. That said, Marcus Thuram and company will certainly not spit on a new national trophy.
The probable line-ups of Naples – Inter
Naples: Gollini; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Jesus; Mazzocchi, Cajuste, Lobotka, Rui; Politano, Simeone, Kvaratskhelia
Inter Milan: Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez
