Germany never hesitates to innovate when it comes to football. While the Bundesliga has been an attractive championship for decades, the first and second division clubs adopted a new reform on Monday. On the occasion of the general assembly of the German football league (DFL), 24 of the 36 professional clubs from across the Rhine voted favorably for the implementation of a motion which will force professional clubs to pay a part of their television rights to the League. According to initial estimates, each club will give up a little less than 10% of their TV rights.

In total, the League could receive nearly a billion euros following this new law. Adopted this Monday for the next 20 years, the latter must still be refined and negotiated. Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg, owned by Bayer and Wolkswagen respectively, will be exempt from this motion as they already belonged to these groups before the creation of the Bundesliga. The DFL has promised that this money will be used to promote the championship internationally.
