It was this Sunday that Stade Rennais formalized the departure of Bruno Genesio and the return of Julian Stéphan as coach of the Rouge et Noir.

Everything was turned upside down at Stade Rennais. After several days of uncertainty, Bruno Genesio, challenged due to the team’s poor start to the season but also tired by his situation with the Rouge et Noir, left his position as coach, “ agreement » with the Breton training, « and for personal reasons in particular », as the club made official on Sunday.

Julien Stéphan was named new coach in the same SRFC press release and the 43-year-old technician is making his comeback at the head of Rennes. Guy Stéphan’s son was promoted from the Stade Rennais U19s to the reserve then straight to the first team in December 2018, replacing Sabri Lamouchi.

Under his command, Rennes won the Coupe de France in 2019 against PSG (on penalties) and finished 3rd in Ligue 1 in 2020 to compete in the first Champions League in the club’s history. A series of poor results culminated in the coach’s resignation in March 2021.

Florian Maurice, number 1 in the sports sector at Stade Rennais since May 2020, is on the verge of slamming the door, while it is François Pinault, owner of the club, who chose to bring back Julien Stéphan.
