Premier League: 8 goals, a completely crazy match, but no winner between Chelsea and Manchester City

Chelsea and Manchester City offered us a spectacle to enjoy in length, breadth and depth this Sunday, in what was probably the match of the start of the season in England. Faced during the 12th day of the Premier League, the two clubs parted with a parity score (4-4), but at the end of a spectacular match punctuated by twists and turns. Because if the meeting could nevertheless be likened to an unbalanced duel between the leader of the championship and the 10th, it was nothing of the sort. Jostled by the oppressive Blues, inspired and clearly reassured, six days after a convincing success against Tottenham (1-4), the Citizens could have been punished from the start if Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson had shown themselves more bleeding.

But as often this season, the same refrain was repeated: dominant, the Blues scuttled themselves. Erling Haaland transformed a penalty obtained after an unnecessary collision by Cucurella in the area (0-1, 25th). Pugnacious, however, they reacted thanks to a furious header from Thiago Silva from a corner (1-1, 29th), and even took the advantage a few moments later. In a moment of total disconnection, Gvardiol got confused. A micro-error with major consequences since Reece James used himself as a starter and offered Raheem Sterling a goal against his former club (2-1, 37th). Preferred over Jack Grealish as often in recent weeks on the left, Jérémy Doku multiplied the moments of heat in front of the London surface. It was also one of his forays which was at the origin of Manuel Akanji’s equalizer just before the break (2-2, 45+1).

A trigger match for Chelsea?

On a two-played corner, Bernardo Silva put the Swiss into orbit, which left Robert Sanchez immobile. A real blow. Returning from the locker room, this time it was Erling Haaland’s turn to score (2-3, 47th). Served by Julian Alvarez in front of the empty goal, the Norwegian scored a double and scored his 13th goal of the season. The trend then leaned more towards a 4-2 than a 3-3. After a smooth transition, Jérémy Doku was even very close to scoring his third goal in the Premier League, but Robert Sanchez, difficult to blame this evening, was still on the alert (58th). We then thought Chelsea were on the verge of collapse, but pushed by their twelfth man, Mauricio Pochettino’s players managed to equalize, once again. Sensing Ederson’s dismissal on a Gallagher strike, Nicolas Jackson joined the party and scored his fourth goal of the week, six days after his hat-trick against Tottenham (3-3, 67th).

But Malo Gusto’s huge miss preceded Rodri’s (almost) liberating goal. With a left-footed strike, the Spaniard successfully saw Thiago Silva deflect the ball into his own goal (3-4, 86th). A citizen victory then seemed to be taking shape but destiny decided otherwise. For a foul by Ruben Dias on Broja in the area, Anthony Taylor pointed to the penalty spot in added time. The child of the house Cole Palmer took care of it and deceived Ederson (4-4, 90 + 5th) in an unbreathable end to the match where the two teams, this time, parted for good in a draw. With this result, however, Manchester City retains its throne as leader. Chelsea will probably feed off this meeting for the rest of the season. But in the meantime, the Blues must be content with their 10th place.
