The Premier League recognized a clear VAR error during Tottenham-Liverpool (2-1, 7th day).

A down day for Liverpool. That’s the least we can say about the Reds being particularly unhappy on Saturday at Tottenham. We obviously think of Joël Matip and this decisive own goal scored in added time (2-1, 90th+6) while he resisted with his people nine against eleven.

The expulsions of Jones (26th) and Jota, for a second yellow card (69th), did not affect the solidarity of Jürgen Klopp’s team. When they were still ten, the Liverpool players managed to equalize through Gakpo (45th + 4).

Luis Diaz even opened the scoring with a cross shot in the 34th minute, a goal canceled for offside. A gross error recognized a few hours later by the Association of Professional English Football Referees (PGMOL).

“Clear and obvious factual error”

VAR officials, specifies Sky Sports, validated the decision of their colleagues on the field believing the goal awarded. They clearly did not observe correctly, in particular the flag raised by one of the assistants.

Luiz Diaz’s goal was ruled out for offside by the match officials on the field. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded via VAR intervention, however, VAR did not intervene.we can read in a press release from the PGMOL.

The admitted fault will not do justice, nor points, to Liverpool who suffered their first defeat of the season in the Premier League on Saturday. The red people will remember it.
