While OM is going through a new crisis, Frank McCourt came out of silence this Thursday to support Pablo Longoria and announce “profound changes” to come.
It’s total chaos in Marseille. After a meeting which went badly between the representatives of the supporters groups and the management of the Marseille club, Marcelino decided to leave the ship this Wednesday. Pablo Longoria has decided to withdraw, having received threats and intimidation, and is even considering resigning.
And while the tension has still not subsided in the Marseille city, Frank McCourt spoke this Thursday, via a press release, to denounce the actions of the leaders of supporter groups and to provide his support to Longoria. The American businessman also estimated that “a profound change is necessary” to enable the club to “develop without hindrance in the long term”.

“An alarming display of aggression”

Instead, it turned into an alarming display of aggression, with members of the OM Executive Board facing threats of violence. »we can read in the press release.
“I strongly support Pablo Longoria”
“In the face of this situation, I strongly support Pablo Longoria and we are working to determine the best course of action for the club and its team members. Supporting the Management Board, staff and players of OM, who are the guarantors of the continued success of our club, is and will remain my top priority. This support involves guaranteeing their security and a healthy atmosphere conducive to victory. »
“Monday’s incident is just one of many”
“The situation that occurred on Monday and which led us to the resignation of Marcelino and his staff is unacceptable and, unfortunately, it is not the only example of behavior that goes against the mission of our club. Our goal is to win on the ground, to bring together and inspire the people of Marseille. Monday’s incident is just one of many that are undermining the foundations and functioning of the club, and making it much more difficult to achieve our goals. »
“A profound change is necessary”
“Our management of OM has taught us that profound change is necessary to give the club a real chance of developing without hindrance in the long term. This change requires strong collective support, inside and outside OM. Only change will allow OM to retain its identity while continuing to build a club of the stature that our supporters and the city of Marseille deserve. »
