Former coach of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to the circumstances of the Portuguese star’s return to Manchester United in 2021.
In the very last days of the 2021 summer transfer window, Cristiano Ronaldo made his comeback to Manchester United after three seasons spent at Juventus Turin and nine with Real Madrid. A comeback which unfortunately turned sour. The five-time Ballon d’Or packed his bags a year and a half later for Saudi Arabia after terminating his contract with the Red Devis by mutual agreement.
During an interview given to The AthleticOle Gunnar Solskjaer discussed the conditions for the Lusitanian star’s return to Manchester, of which he was the coach at that time.
“It was a very difficult decision to refuse”
“Ronaldo’s recruitment? It was a very difficult decision to turn down and I felt we had to do it, but it didn’t work out, recognized the Norwegian coach. I felt like it was a good thing when he signed and the fans felt it against Newcastle. He was still one of the best scorers in the world. »
After a stormy end, Cristiano Ronaldo signed up, to everyone’s surprise, last winter with the support club of Al-Nassr. He was thus the first to give in to the sirens of the extremely wealthy oil country, which then attracted Karim Benzema, Neymar and even N’Golo Kanté (to name a few).
