Second in the Premier League last season, Arsenal intends to continue its return to the front of the stage. Wanting to be effective in the transfer window, the London club aimed to offer themselves a reinforcement in central defense in order to compete with an already well supplied sector (William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Jakub Kiwior, Auston Trusty and Rob Holdin) where Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu can also evolve. To do so, the Gunners quickly identified the nugget of Ajax Amsterdam, Jurriën Timber.

Launched by Erik ten Hag, the native of Utrecht has been essential for three seasons and comes out of a solid exercise where he will have been one of the few to stand out on the side of the Godenzonen (47 matches, 2 goals and 2 offerings) . Arrived in 2014 from Feyenoord to continue his apprenticeship in the Amsterdam training center with his twin Quinten Timber (current Feyenoord midfielder). Dutch international (15 caps), he participated in Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

Taking the time to hatch, especially with Lisandro Martinez, before the latter joined Manchester United, Jurriën Timber joined another Premier League cador. “Dutch international Jurrien Timber joins us from Ajax on a long-term contract. (…) Jurrien will wear jersey number 12”Arsenal announced in a press release formalizing the news of this transfer.

Estimated at 40 million euros plus 5 million easily achievable bonuses, this transfer quickly took shape since the player was coming to the end of a cycle and was quickly seduced by Mikel Arteta’s speech. Initialing a contract until June 2028, Jurriën Timber should receive around 8 million euros per year, double his last contract with Amsterdam. Launched on the attack of the Premier League, the right-hander is therefore the second rookie of the Gunners after the arrival of Kai Havertz from Chelsea.
