AJ Auxerre won against Stade Brestois for the 6th day of Ligue 1, this Friday evening (3-0).

Incarnation of Tom Thumb in the 1990s, theAJ Auxerre welcomed Stade Brestois, last season’s spoilsport, for a charming display at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps. A match which opposed two trajectories and two very distinct realities.

With 4 consecutive defeats in its matches, the AJA aimed to stop the bleeding. But it was a major challenge, facing a Breton team engaged in the Champions League. For Brest, the whole issue of this trip to Burgundy was summed up in this pre-C1 context: how were Eric Roy’s men going to approach a match in Salzburg which was looming in 4 days?

AJA holds its benchmark match

The answer was quite clear. Overtaken in all areas of the game, the Brestois were not up to the task. But all the credit went to a very conquering AJA, determined to erase her recent disappointments. Owusu took advantage of a disagreement in the Brest defense to break the deadlock with a powerful strike (1-0, 26th).

AJA then made the break with a penalty converted with conviction by Jubal (2-0, 37th), before sealing its success in the second half with a very good technical sequence from Hamed Traoré, very influential elsewhere (3- 0.59th). A victory which definitively launches the season of the promoted Burgundian.
