After the final whistle of the match between Espanyol Barcelona and Villarreal (1-2), in La Liga, an object was thrown in the direction of Quintero González, the referee of the match. According to images captured by the Spanish media, it appears to be a glass or a bottle, half full. Security members rushed to identify the man who had thrown the object.
During the match, certain decisions by Quintero González caused discontent among Espanyol supporters. He was heavily whistled at the end of the match by the public at the RCDE Stadium (Barcelona). With this fourth defeat in seven games, Espanyol is in 14th place. Villarreal continue to impress and currently sit in fourth position, three points behind second-placed Real Madrid.
