Adrien Rabiot actually made a big effort to land at OM this summer.

The day after signing a two-year contract with OM, Adrien Rabiot spoke to the press on Wednesday, revealing the motivations that recently led him to this unexpected career choice. I immediately joined the project presented by Medhi Benatia, the coach and the president. A very ambitious project, it’s a real great challenge, with a young and quality squad. It’s true that Roberto De Zerbi was a key player in my decision. »

There is an ambitious project, people at the club who work well. I was convinced quickly, I felt a determination, a desire to work with me, that I had not felt with other clubs with whom I was able to discuss. I have great ambitions and the club too “, continues the man who defended the colours of PSG for seven years – not counting his training. ” I don’t have to explain anything to anyone, I’m making my career, in life nothing is impossible. What people say when they’re younger can be different with experience and other circumstances. I’m calm and very happy to be here. Maybe it disappointed some people, but it’s a choice that’s mine. »

A salary lower than that of Correa

A daring choice, especially since the person concerned has rejected many golden bridges – in Italy, Spain, England and even recently in Turkey – to end up at OM when he could no longer be engaged on the European scene this season. To sign for Marseille in fact, Adrien Rabiot had to revise his salary expectations downwards, drastically. And this despite a signing bonus of around five million euros.

According to journalist Romain Molina, during the first year of his two-year contract with Olympique de Marseille, the French international will receive 2.5 million euros net, excluding bonuses. That is a little over 200,000 euros per month. And three times less than at Juventus. For comparison, the Argentinian Joaquin Correa during the previous year received 450,000 euros gross per month, that is a little under 250,000 euros net… Under the cover of a qualification for the Champions League, these emoluments would nevertheless explode in the second year of the contract, in proportions not yet specified.
