Following Liverpool’s victory in Manchester, Mohamed Salah announced that he would leave the Reds at the end of the season.

What Liverpool fans experienced after their team’s great victory (0-3) on Manchester United’s pitch is what is commonly called a cold shower. They had barely finished celebrating Mohamed Salah’s new great match, author of a goal and two assists against the Red Devils, when they received some tough news from the very mouth of the man concerned.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Egyptian, whose contract ends next summer, said when discussing his future:
“As you know, this is my last season at the club. I just want to enjoy it and not think about it. I feel free to play football and we’ll see what happens next season. (…) Nobody at the club has spoken to me about a contract, so I’m playing my last season and then we’ll see. I don’t know if I’ll come back, but this was my last game here with Liverpool.”explained the 32-year-old striker.

A pressure tactic or a decision already made?

Sought after in Saudi Arabia, where several clubs were ready to offer a golden bridge to the Reds to convince them to sell their star striker, Mohamed Salah knows that he will find a buyer in his situation, whether in Europe or in a more exotic but also more lucrative championship. His statements, which came after such a recital, are perhaps also a way of putting pressure on the Liverpool management so that they begin discussions with him for an extension.

The fans, who lost Jürgen Klopp, replaced by Arne Slot, could thus see Salah, but also two other historic players of the club, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both at the end of their contracts, leave the banks of the Mersey in a few months.
