While Manchester City still faces accusations of violations of the Premier League’s financial rules, Paul Pogba did not miss the opportunity to slip a little dig at his former rival. Present in Singapore as part of events organized with its partners, notably on the occasion of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, the French community was questioned about the 115 accusations against the Citizens. And the former Manchester United player responded with a touch of irony, talking about the possibility of recovering English championship titles. “ I have nothing to say, to be honest. I just hope this doesn’t affect the Premier League and that we can get two titles back “, he said. A statement which directly refers to the seasons during which the Red Devils finished behind their neighbor Mancunian, today at the heart of a major procedure concerning potential financial infractions.

Paul Pogba refers in particular to the 2017-2018 and 2020-2021 financial years, when Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League behind Manchester City. Present in the Mancunian squad during these two seasons, the 2018 world champion could therefore, in theory, see his record enriched if the Citizens’ titles were to be withdrawn and reallocated to the second-ranked teams. But such an outcome remains purely hypothetical, since possible sanctions and their sporting consequences depend on the decisions taken within the framework of the procedure. Manchester City disputes the accusations against him. In the meantime, Pogba has chosen humor to comment on this particularly sensitive issue in England, while indirectly recalling the historic rivalry between the two Manchester clubs.
