Lionel Messi was introduced to Inter Miami supporters for the first time on Sunday after his transfer was made official. The Argentine was handed the number 10 shirt to the cheers of thousands.
Rob Wilson of the Shefied Business School told Sax that Messi’s move to Inter from Miami wasn’t just a boost for the soccer American, but that it would also help the city of Miami to rival New York and Los Angeles as the country’s top tourist destination.

“Lionel Messi could 100% inspire Miami to rival New York and Los Angeles as the leader in tourism in the United States. There are several franchises in Miami, from the Dolphins to the Marlins, and the city is becoming a mecca for athletic competition. The infrastructure is there, the transport links are excellent and the climate is excellent. It’s absolutely a place people will go to watch the competition.”
Messi will be joined by his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets at Inter Miami, who was also revealed on Sunday in Florida.
