Former PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino could bounce back at the head of a national team.

Without a job since the end of his mission as Chelsea coach, Mauricio Pochettino could well discover the job of coach. The Argentinian is coveted by a nation across the Atlantic.

According to CBS Sports Golazo, the former PSG coach is among the main candidates to take charge of the American national team. He would replace Gregg Benthalter, who left his position after the elimination conceded in the first round of the Copa America.

Pochettino follows in Klinsmann’s footsteps

If he takes over Team USA, Pochettino will have the task of preparing for the 2026 World Cup on home soil. A huge challenge for “Poche”, but also very exciting. And there are also the salary conditions that go with it.

It should be noted that since 1994 and the first World Cup played on their soil, the United States has only had two foreign coaches on its bench. There was the long mandate of Jurgen Klinsmann (2011-2016) as well as the short stay of the Englishman Anthony Hudson (from January to May 2023).

It is worth noting that Pochettino was also recently mentioned as a possible successor to Gareth Southgate, but these were rumours without any basis in fact. It is highly unlikely that the FA will call upon his services.
