Guimaraes joined Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Japan after a long break and captained the team in the friendly against Yokohama F. Marinos. The midfielder later posted a message on social media, saying he was looking forward to starting the new season at Newcastle and insisting he was ” more dedicated than ever » at the club.
Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer, but no team has opted to activate his release clause which expired in June, believed to be around £100m. The 26-year-old has four years left on his contract at St James’ Park.
Guimaraes will not move
On social media, Guimaraes wrote: “I am very happy to start a new season with this club that has done so much for me since my first day here. I am happy to be back and more prepared than ever to have a brilliant season and help Newcastle reach the best possible position!”
“Another dream has come true! Being the captain of this team is everything I’ve ever dreamed of, but never imagined! We’re in this together and I’m sure I’ll be more dedicated than ever to this badge.”
