La Liga giants Barca are giving their iconic home a major facelift, with it being suggested that matches could be played there, with a reduced capacity as work is completed, from December 2024.
If that opportunity arises, Inter Miami will be free of any commitment to MLS since the American season will be over. Barcelona will be in the middle of the 2024-25 campaign, but a prestigious friendly match could be arranged.

Asked why a clash between Inter Miami and Barca has not been staged since Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez joined the ranks at Chase Stadium, Xavier Asensi, the Herons’ president of operations, told Mundo Deportivo: ” It’s a question of calendar. The 2020 match was part of the tour that we were able to prepare. Since we played the League Cup, we no longer have the visibility of the possibility of playing a friendly match. In January or December, we cannot know if it will fit into the calendar.
Asked about the possibility of taking Messi to the Camp Nou for the reopening of a ground he graced with his presence for 17 years, he added: ” It depends on the date… Let’s talk about it.”
Messi scored a record 672 goals for Barcelona in 778 appearances. He helped the club win 10 La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues. He left the club for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, before joining Miami two years later.
